The Player-of-the-Tournament
conversation, ranked.
Sportsvyn reads what the players have actually done at this tournament: every goal, every assist, every red card, against the strength of the opposition. The composite is the argument. The board recomputes after every matchday.
Each player’s score blends two layers. Production is deterministic from match events, weighting open-play goals over penalties, crediting assists, and docking red cards. Impact is a grounded read of the actual matches the player has been part of: was the goal decisive, did they carry the team, did the opposition resist. Production keeps the board honest; impact separates the hat-trick-in-a-rout from the late winner against a top side.
Match stakes. Goals and assists are weighted by what the match had at stake. Strikes in knockout matches, and in group matches that still bore on qualification, count in full. Strikes in dead rubbers, group matches where both teams had already secured their place in the knockout round before kickoff, are weighted at 70%, because a goal that cannot change either side’s advancement is worth less to a tournament-impact ranking than one scored under live stakes. Stakes are derived structurally from the standings at kickoff, not from any judgment of effort or opponent strength; a team that could still reach the knockouts, including via a best-third place, counts as full stakes.
Progression. A tournament MVP is still at the tournament. Once a player’s team is knocked out, the score is scaled by how far the team went: a team beaten in the round of 32 is weighted below one that reached the round of 16, which sits below a quarterfinal exit, which sits below a team still playing. Teams still alive, and teams that reached the semifinals, carry full weight. This is a multiplier, not a deletion. A strong campaign on a beaten side still counts, and still ranks above weaker ones; it just stops sitting level with players whose tournament is still being written.
The multipliers: round of 32 exit, 0.85; round of 16, 0.90; quarterfinal, 0.95; semifinal or still playing, full.

Vinícius Júnior has been Brazil's sharpest attacking threat across three matches, contributing a goal and an assist in the comfortable 3-0 win over Haiti before putting Scotland away with a brace, striking in the 7th minute and again at the stroke of halftime in a dominant display that generated 4.41 xG and 20 shots away from home. His lone blemish remains a 1-1 draw with Morocco, where his 32nd-minute opener was not enough to hold the result. The split between his production and impact scores reflects that finishing edge outpacing overall game influence, yet his three goals and one assist keep him firmly in the MVP conversation.

D. Undav's two-goal burst against Ivory Coast is the centerpiece of his tournament case: he leveled at 68 minutes and then punched in a 90+4 winner to rescue all three points for Germany. Against Curaçao he contributed two assists, teeing up N. Brown at 68 and K. Havertz at 88 while adding a goal of his own at 78, though that came while Germany were already padding a comfortable lead in a 7-1 rout. The production score is tempered by that context, but the impact score reflects what he delivered when the stakes were real.

C. Summerville has delivered in three very different situations: a 64th-minute equalizer against Japan in a 2-2 draw despite a yellow three minutes earlier, a 54th-minute assist for C. Gakpo and an 89th-minute finisher in the 5-1 rout of Sweden, then a leveling goal at 120+5 and another assist for C. Gakpo against Morocco, where Netherlands managed just two shots on goal with 30 percent possession. The production numbers are modest, but the high impact score reflects goals and assists arriving precisely when Netherlands needed them most.
