Mbappé brace and Dembélé finish send France past Iraq 3-0 in Philadelphia.
Mbappé opened the scoring in the 14th minute, converting an assist from Olise to put France in control early at Lincoln Financial Field. Iraq's afternoon grew more difficult at the 28-minute mark when a VAR review was triggered against Al-Hamadi, and the substitute who had come on just two minutes prior at the 26th — replacing Aymen Hussein — saw his involvement scrutinised. Mbappé doubled the lead in the 54th minute, this time assisted by Dembélé, before Dembélé added a third in the 66th minute with Olise again providing the assist. Iraq registered four shots across the match but none on target, offering France's backline little to deal with.
The result moves France to three points in Group I of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Iraq, who finished with 44 percent of possession and no shots on target, remain on zero points. Both sides will return for their next group stage fixtures. France made three substitutions in the 68th minute — withdrawing both Dembélé and Olise, the creators of the second and third goals — before Mbappé was also brought off in the 91st minute for Thuram.
